How many times have we thought in our minds, “Why doesn’t God just tell me what to do?” If He’s not verbally communicating with us, how do we hear His voice?
Sometimes God literally directs our physical path. “In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.” (Proverbs 3:6).
When we ask for an answer from God it must be according to His principles. For God’s Spirit to work in us, we have to have the right attitude and live according to God’s way. Looking and listening for His guidance. Sometimes people superstitiously ascribe God’s direction to something they were determined to do anyway. Don’t just look for personal vindication; seek to understand what God is actually telling us!
Define the problem carefully. Study God’s word on the subject. The entire book of Proverbs is especially helpful. Pursue wise counsel, but not just from those who agree with you. Sometimes we even need to fast to seek God’s will when a question is particularly important.
God also communicates to the entire world individually and nationally through blessings and cursings (Leviticus 26, Deuteronomy 28). If we live His way, we’re blessed. If we live another way, we’re cursed. Cause and effect. However, God won’t make every decision for us because if He did, how could we grow? He is actively working with each of us now. Correcting us. Guiding us. Allowing circumstance to strengthen and create in us a patient heart.
When we go forward using God’s biblical principles, doing our homework, and following through, we can be a blessing to others. We just need to ask ourselves am I really listening to God?
